Pu Luong

The Nature Reserve of Pù Luông stretch along the two karstic mountain chains, covering an area of 17,662 ha. It is the largest area of forests and karstic mountains in northern Vietnam, with three main types of forests: lowland forests, mountain forests and bamboo massifs.

According to statistics of the Pu Luong Nature Reserve management department, there are 1,109 species of vascular plants including 42 endemic species and 4 species listed in the World Red Book. Pù Luông is the habitat of nearly 600 species of animals, birds and reptiles, including 51 listed in the Vietnam red book and the world Red Book (26 mammals, 5 bat, 9 birds, 5 fresh water fish and 6 reptiles). In addition, it is home to the second largest population of Delacour Langur in Vietnam, after the Vân Long Nature Reserve (Ninh Binh province), with 31-38 individuals.

In the Pù Luông valleys, visitors have the opportunity to discover the ethnic minority villages and the local life. Along the national road 15C that crosses the reserve, you will see villages on the mountainside, verdant forests intertwined with rice terraces. There are 24 villages of Muong and Thais ethnic groups nestled in the Pu Luong valleys.

Renowned for its biodiversity and the hospitality of its inhabitants, this site welcomes only a small number of tourists. The community tourism development in Pu Luong contributes to improve the living conditions of the local people and to stop the forest resources exploitation.
